The demand for made-to-measure solid wood furniture is on the rise, as individuals seek customized interiors to reflect their unique tastes. Mon Petit Meuble Français specializes in custom pieces, offering both one-off creations and limited production runs, tailored to each client's specific requirements.
Rather than offering a standard product, we collaborate with our clients to design unique pieces that seamlessly blend with their existing or planned interior décor.
How customizing solid wood furniture works
We specialize in the design of custom solid wood furniture, working from descriptions, plans, or even simple sketches provided by the customer. This approach allows us to handle projects of any nature, whether it's a piece of living room furniture, a bookcase, a table, a sideboard, or a desk.
The process is meticulously executed in several stages:
-
Initial exchange
We contact you by telephone, e-mail, or video to clarify dimensions, configuration, and finishes. We also offer advice on matching the future furniture to the room's style. This phase can be time-consuming, as we need to understand your expectations and gather information about the room where the furniture will be installed. This information includes access, floor, skirting boards, and height. This allows us to avoid having to modify the project.
2. Study and estimate
The second phase involves a thorough study and estimation of the project's scope, including the design, materials, and production time. Once all the information has been gathered, an estimate is drawn up, taking into account design costs and production time for the special piece of furniture.
The price of the order is not necessarily linked to the dimensions: factors such as:
-
the cost of wood specific to the order, including thicknesses and lengths;pieces or blocks of wood with dimensions different from the usual supply; and, of course, the rarity and value of a species have a strong impact on the cost price.
-
The manufacturing time for bespoke cabinetry with unique shapes or designs will be extended, as the assembly process tends to be more labor-intensive and time-consuming.
-
The procurement of specific finishes, such as specialized tints or colors, or the transition from PU varnish to oiled finishes, necessitates diversified sourcing and, in some cases, lab-based color research, which contributes to increased costs.
3. Local manufacturing
Craftsmen and joiners shape each element by hand, using traditional assembly techniques, such as dovetail joints for drawer fronts and mortise and tenon joints to reinforce the structure.
4. Finishing and assembly
Varnish, oil or lacquer are applied to highlight the wood grain or add a touch of color. Solid wood furniture is then fully assembled in the workshop, which makes us more responsible, avoids delicate handling for the buyer and extends the life of your furniture.
5. Delivery and installation
Two people are on hand to deliver large, heavy pieces of furniture to your chosen room, by appointment. If required, for example for the installation of bookcases, we can send 4 delivery fitters who will connect the various bookcase modules together and adjust the threaders.
Mon Petit Meuble Français is with you every step of the way, from initial contact to in-home installation and choice of finishes. In this way, we can guarantee you a result that lives up to your expectations.
A design that highlights French know-how
Local manufacturing in France is at the heart of the Mon Petit Meuble Français approach. The workshops, located in Ille-et-Vilaine, Manche and Mayenne, work noble woods such as oak, ash, cherry and walnut, distinguished by their distinctive grain. Their density gives them remarkable strength.
The absence of composite materials preserves the wood's natural nobility and durability. Wherever possible, varnishes are applied using water-based formulas, reducing the use of solvents. This approach places a premium on environmental protection and user comfort.
The selection of locally sourced materials also helps to limit travel distances. This has a tangible impact on the final price of made-to-measure French furniture, which can be more affordable than you might think.
